1897 - Bersey Electric Cab
The first horseless cab, the Bersey electric powered vehicle, appeared in 1897, was the first type of self-propelled cab licensed for hire in London. In total some seventy of these cabs were built. They had a range of thirty miles between battery charges, which was barely sufficient for a normal day's work. The batteries were situated in a tray beneath the chassis.
